"In the midst of being a bit lost I knew I wanted to write."
A Conversation with Angela Peters of ‘Hairspray and Highheels’
See how a crossroads in life led Ange to a community that would forever change her life
What sparked your passion in skincare?
I was sitting around one day in my late twenties realizing how awful I had been to my skin thus far in life. I managed a tanning salon from high school through college and I just started wondering when I would see the effects of that. I started heavily researching skincare products to reverse the damage I had done and prepare my skin for the future.
What made you realize you wanted to share your perspective on social media? Who or what inspired you to do so?
I was at a crossroads in my life and not sure if the career path I was on was for me. In the midst of being a bit lost I knew that I wanted to write. I started writing for an all-female sports blog. The blog didn't last but my passion for the community that was built from it did and I wanted to recreate that somehow. I wanted to be a place where people could come and get a raw and honest review of a product. Hairspray and Highheels was built out of confusion but it forever changed my life.
How has the beauty industry affected your life personally?
It sent me down a path I didn't even know was possible. I started just sharing nail art and it became so much more. If you had asked me eight years ago what I'd be doing, I promise you it would not have been this. I had no idea this was even an option. Once I started to see it as one, I started making connections in my industry who have become lifelong friends and have nourished a community that I am humbled by daily. This industry changed me in the best way possible.
What are your favorite ingredients right now and why?
Retinol and Vitamin C. I treat my skincare products like employees. I'm in a place where aging and brightness are my biggest concerns. I want ingredients that pack a punch and get the job done.
Why did you choose to work with PCA SKIN and create a starter kit?
I don't know that there's another brand out there that fills its customer service department with licensed professionals who have actual hands-on experience with the products they're talking about. There's not another brand I know who if you randomly call customer service you can get a rundown on what order to apply your products in. All these things were important to me. I've tried almost every PCA SKIN product and had their professional treatments. I've yet to find a product or treatment I even remotely dislike. PCA SKIN is part of my everyday routine and has been now for almost two years.
